Answer Engine Insights Settings
Last updated: April 19, 2026
Answer Engine Insights Settings allows you to configure brand and competitor profiles, manage citation tags, define name-matching parameters, and specify the entities to be parsed and extracted from answer engine response data.
These settings define how Profound tooling processes, classifies, and analyzes answer engine responses to generate insights such as Share of Voice.
Answer Engine Insights Settings are settings specific to visualizations and data generation. Admin and User Settings are separately accessed from the lower left hand of the platform UI.
Prompts
To access the Prompt modification menu, navigate to Answer Engine Insights > Prompts > Modify Prompts. From here, you can select the prompts you want to add tags to or make other modifications. You can learn how to create and modify prompts here.
Note: Before prompts and topics will display, you must first configure regions, personas, and platforms in your Answer Engine Insights settings. After initial configuration, allow 24-48 hours for data collection to complete and prompts to appear.
Configure Competitors
Competitors are a key factor in calculations within Share of Voice, answer engine Platform comparisons, and Citations, among others.
You can include or exclude competitors from Answer Engine Insights calculations.
Include list: Only competitors added to your list are included in reporting.
Exclude list: All competitors are included except those specified in your list.
You can toggle between Include and Exclude modes from this menu and manage your list using the Include/Exclude Competitors button.

Citation Tags
Citation Tags categorize whether a URL source in an answer engine response is Owned, Competitor, Social, or a Custom tag.
These tags are used to calculate insights such as Citation Share, where citations are grouped by tag type.
You can add tags using the "+ Add Citation Tags" button and remove them by selecting the trash can icon next to an existing tag.

URL subpaths determine whether all pages under a given domain are included. For example, tryprofound.ai/hello is a subpath of tryprofound.ai.
Name Matching
Name Matching connects the various names used in answer engine responses to refer to your brand. For example, Profound may appear as “Try Profound,” “Profound Metrics,” or “Profound Search” in responses. By matching these names, Answer Engine Insights groups all variations under the same brand.

Profound aggregates responses and automatically identifies unmapped listings. You can map these values to an existing asset or create a new asset to map future values to.
To map assets surfaced in answer engine responses, toggle to “Unmapped Assets” and select a name to map. Use the “Mention to Map” field to associate it with an existing asset, or select “Or Create New Asset” to build a new mapping.

Entity Parser Configuration
The Entity Parser Configuration specifies which entities are to be parsed and extracted from answer engine responses. The type of entities determine which names will be extracted, such as company name or product name.
Additional instructions provide specific guidance for the parsing process. You can specify an exclusion list that skips parsing based on answer engine response content, for example.
Export your Answer Engine Insights
Each Answer Engine Insights tab offers the ability to export the insights contained within that report. The export option is available on the right side of the top navigation bar.

Exports support both JSON and CSV formats.
Raw Exports
Raw exports include the underlying data points used to calculate insights such as Visibility and Share of Voice.
Raw exports provide access to all source data that powers these insights, enabling further analysis or action outside of Profound. For example, you can use the raw data to calculate additional metrics or store it in an alternative system of record.
