Answer Engine Insights is a collection of analytical tools that show how your brand performs across AI answer engines, such as ChatGPT, Perplexity, or Gemini. Profound queries these answer engines and builds a dataset from the responses that shows how your brand is represented.
Below are the core concepts that Answer Engine Insights is built on.
Prompt-driven analysis
Prompts are the queries Profound sends to answer engines daily. Profound aggregates the responses into a dataset you can filter to measure your brand's performance in answer engine results.
For example, Profound sends a prompt such as "What is the best tool for answer engine analysis" to each answer engine, then captures every response as a data point. Together, these data points show how your brand is represented across all responses.
Topics
A topic is a group of related prompts organized around a common theme, product, or business objective. Topics structure your full collection of prompts.
Tags
Tags add another layer of classification to prompts. Use them to group or filter prompts in Answer Engine Insights.

Visibility score
Profound tracks whether your brand appears in an answer engine response. If your brand is present, your Visibility score increases for that response; if it's not, the score decreases.
The Visibility score is a percentage: the number of responses that include your brand divided by the total number of responses that include at least one brand. For example, if your brand appears in 5 out of 10 responses, your Visibility score is 50% (5/10).
Citations
A citation is a reference or link to a specific webpage, article, or resource within an answer engine response. Profound tracks how often answer engines cite your brand, which shows how they use your site's content.
Sentiment
Sentiment is Profound's evaluation of how your brand is portrayed in AI-generated responses. For example, a response mentioning "high cost" lowers the Sentiment score because it reflects a negative association with your brand. A response stating "proven results" raises the score because it indicates a positive association.
FactCheck
FactCheck is Profound's accuracy layer. It measures how AI engines describe your brand and pinpoints which sources are responsible when they get it wrong. FactCheck extracts the specific claims AI models make about your brand, checks each one against your own source of truth, and shows which citation URLs fuel any inaccurate information.
FactCheck has its own set of metrics and concepts, such as Accuracy, Claims, and Themes. Learn more in 📄 About FactCheck.
Share of Voice
Share of Voice measures how often answer engines mention your brand relative to competitors, showing how prominent your brand is against other brands.
Share of Voice is a percentage: the number of responses that mention your brand divided by the total number of brand mentions across all responses. For example, if your brand is mentioned 20 times out of 100 total brand mentions, your Share of Voice is 20% (20/100).
Average Position
Average Position ranks where your brand is mentioned in the AI answers against competitors in your market. It aggregates performance indicators, such as Share of Voice, into a ranked score. A score of 1 means that your brand is typically the first one to be mentioned in an AI response.
Charts
Charts are the graphs, tables, and visualizations that help you interpret how your brand performs in answer engine results.
Each chart has its own configuration options depending on what it displays. To learn how each chart works, see 📄 Interpret Answer Engine Insights.
